Your New Brighter & Whiter Smile

Teeth Whitening with Dr. Stearns

Regardless of how well you care for your teeth, it is inevitable that, over time, some yellowing or discoloration will occur. This gradual change can be caused by aging, substances that stain your teeth (coffee, tea and tobacco are prime culprits), excessive fluoride, or the deterioration of a tooth’s nerve. A tooth whitening treatment performed by Englewood NJ Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Neil Stearns can be the perfect cure for yellowed or discolored teeth. These treatments bring about drastically whiter teeth and help create a brighter, more beautiful smile.

What is Teeth Whitening Used For?

You may be asking yourself, why would patients want to undergo teeth whitening? For some patients, they feel self-conscious about their smile with stains. Maybe they’ve had one too many cups of coffee or glasses of wine, but either way they are unhappy with their smile.

Teeth whitening offers a sort of freedom by giving teeth the appearance of looking healthy and bright. If you have you a career in the public eye, make frequent presentations, or are trying to get back into the dating scene, then teeth whitening may be for you. A beautiful, bright smile can make all the difference in a first impression. If you’re afflicted with stained teeth, consider teeth whitening as your solution.

Qualifying for Teeth Whitening

While teeth whitening is a popular solution for discolored teeth, not everyone may qualify for this treatment.

  • Young Patients – Children and adolescents are not typically recommended for teeth whitening. If you’re concerned about the coloration of your child’s teeth, consult their pediatric dentist before using any sort of teeth whitening remedy.
  • Pregnant Women – During your pregnancy, it’s recommended that you avoid any sort of intensive dental treatment, including teeth whitening. We would be happy to schedule you for a treatment for after your baby is born.
  • Currently Have Restorations – If your smile is full of veneers, crowns, or implants know that whitening will have no effect on these fixtures.
  • Peroxide Allergy – Since teeth whitening treatments use peroxide during treatment, this treatment is most definitely not recommended if you are allergic to the substance.

GLO Science Professional

glo-262x300 - Stearns ImplantsDr. Stearns believes that everyone who wants a whiter and brighter smile should be able to attain one, no matter the sensitivity of your teeth. Traditional whitening procedures can be painful for patients with sensitive teeth, which can detract them from pursuing treatment.

Thanks to the GLO Science Professional system, those with even the most sensitive teeth can whiten their teeth without worry. Traditional whitening treatments work through a combination of the hydrogen peroxide concentration and the contact time with your teeth. When augmented by the revolutionary GLO technology, bright and white teeth are easier than ever to attain.

The Closed System Universal Mouthpiece

The breakthrough technology is fairly simple. GLO technology consists of a mouthpiece that combines light and heat in a closed system. The controlled warming heat speeds up the reaction of the H202, or hydrogen peroxide, and the closed system prevents the whitening agents from escaping.

Because the whitening system is concentrated and controlled, patients expose their teeth to the gels for a shorter amount of time, which reduces sensitivity.

Chairside and Take Home

GLO Science Pro uses an H202 gel delivered in a dual-barrel syringe for chairside whitening. The formula contains a safe level of H202 depending on your level of sensitivity and your age.

Once you complete your in-office treatment, you will take home a GLO whitening mouthpiece to maintain your results. The mouthpiece contains a much lower concentration of H202, but the innovative g-vial technology increases its efficacy at this level. In this way, you can whiten your teeth safely from the comfort of your own home.

What if Teeth Whitening is Ineffective?

While rare, it does happen that some stains or tooth damage are resistant to teeth whitening. If this happened to you, we also offer a variety of cosmetic dental treatments that can rejuvenate your smile.

During your consultation with Dr. Stearns, ask about our quality porcelain veneers, dental crowns, and dental bonding, all of which are effective at masking whitening-resistant stains and other cosmetic flaws.
