Relieve Your Dental Anxiety

Oral Sedation Dentistry: How Does it Work?

Do you feel nervous at the thought of making a dentist appointment? Do your hands get clammy or experience shortness of breath when arriving at a dental office? You probably have dental anxiety, and we offer a type of sedation that can help calm your nerves even before you reach our practice. It’s called oral sedation, which is consumed in a pill-form prior to your appointment.

What is Oral Sedation with Dr. Stearns?

Oral sedation is typically a pill that you take one hour before the appointment. You will start feeling the effects of the sedation before your appointment, so please have a friend or family member transport you to and from our office. When you arrive in our office, you will be escorted into the comfort room, covered with a thick blanket and placed on a monitor to watch you vital signs. After you are comfortable, Dr. Stearns and his experienced clinical team will take care of your dental needs. When your treatment is completed, your friend or family member will return to drive you home so you can finish your comfortable and relaxing day.

You will have little or no memory of the experience. You probably won’t even remember sounds or smells. You will be relaxed for about five to six hours after taking the pills. People who have difficulty getting numb will find that relax dentistry eliminates this problem. Oral sedation is a safe way to reduce the fatigue of extended dental treatment requiring long visits.
